Patchwerk Technique

Lately my technique for writing music has been to make a patchwork of samples with Garageband so that the song is changing constantly. It’s good if you have a short attention spam.

Giving Up Sugar?

I'm trying to give up sugar.

I continue to doubt I will be able to keep up this no sugar policy but perhaps my doubt is a kind of hope for reverse psychology to work on myself.

I want to get at the truth and not some fad diet. Not "make the theory fit the data".
"Hey everybody you've got to do the same diet as me! I'm a beliver and I will convert you to my new religion!"
Is a religious attitude the only way for humans to stick with something?
Would less sugar make me mellower? sadder? less energetic?
Is there really ever a time that "sugar would help"?
Will the weekend suck without sugar? Will that go away in time?
Is sugar one of my main sources of happiness in life? I hope not!

All fruits and veggies are better when at room temp or warmer.

New record ORION SUNRISE. I think I have decided my favourite form of music is progressive rock. GO on and hate me if you must. Its not a very popular genre.

Well in my case maybe a sort of funky computer prog rock.

Spotify vs. Mp3

I am really enjoying all Spotify has to offer - its like having a CD store in your computer where everything costs a penny ( I have the 5$ a month plan), but there is something missing when you listen to cloud music like this - your personal MP3's of weird, independent music, home recordings, etc. You can listen to your local tracks too with spotify but it somehow seems separate from the cloud stuff. Already, mp3's are seeming nostalgic now that you can stream from the cloud your music.

Coffee

Today I was on my way to work on Incredible Master Treasure Hunters, a magazine I write in, and I spilled my coffee again. Yet again. My wife was amazed that I can manage to spill my coffee so often. I also bought many fruits and vegetables for my blender to make into juice, and a small eclair pie for my mouth. I watered my plants, and I watered the Rhodedendragon from the top of the stairs, a mighty stream of liquid falling form the heavens!!

My New album tenatively called "Hop"

Hello, I am Latham Green and this is my blog about my recordings. Right now I am working on a new record tenatively called Hop.
I have decided to make this a funky album, and I have been listening to a lot of Prince and James Brown to prepare for this, but like Prince I would prefer to make the album be not just funk but a hybrid of rock and funk and whatever else I feel like mixing in. I find it is always best to mix musical genres together rather than try to be a purist.
I have been using midi programming and midi software instruments so far but I have been unpleased with the results because it sounds thin and small, but I can write better music with midi, with less playing errors than I would make if I tried to play and I don't really have time to memorize complicated parts (I can't sight-read music) so the midi is good on that aspect. I have been experimenting with different mastering schemes to try to make the instruments sound fuller, bassier and more analog. I wish I could just afford to pay session musicians, that would be excellent.
I have noticed that Prince often makes pretty sparse pop spongs: just a drum machine, some synth sounds, and the bass is often in the background. For example, "When Doves Cry" has no bass at all and is almost just drums and acapella, but its so funky and psychadelic and passionate. When Prince sings about sex its sexy, if I tried to sing about sex it would just be dirty.
I may try adding some real instruments to the tracks to lend some timbre, like "At the End of the Day", although I often think I could re-recourd the guitar on that one.
